The takeaway remains the same: we need our libraries!Marc Tyler Noblemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10732005290440645718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6611875170009784219.post-77344230070234202542011-10-03T08:54:10.374-04:002011-10-03T08:54:10.374-04:00Marc,

In my opinion there's a difference between an "authoritative source" and a primary source.

An authoritative source is one written by experts and scholars who have devoted years of study and perhaps even specialize in a particular area. These authoritative texts -- written by authorities on the subject -- tend to be found in academic libraries and other specialized institutions.

My public library is a wonderful source of primary sources -- such as photographs and other materials that you describe here. The degree to which the public library is helpful depends on the subject. I don't have low expectations of public libraries at all for this purpose. Some of the primary research that I have done wouldn't have been possible without them.

I am glad that your library was helpful to you.

Congratulations on the success of your research and your book and proving once again the value of the public library.

Susan Campbell BartolettiSusan Campbellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11929069644514294348noreply@blogger.com
